Why build Daemons, the global DAO for AI Agents?

As we stand on the precipice of an AI revolution, questions about the ethical implications of this technology loom. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to reshape our world, but it also presents challenges across labor market disruption, data privacy, and societal impact. What to do about it?

Artificial Intelligence is likely another one of those things which people will say “it is not the thing itself that makes it good or evil, it is the people that wield it”. It is the same with money, guns, power… and, of course, technology of any kind creates asymmetry between people.

Many people are fascinated by it, and I do think LLMs are a new type of reasoning engine, a type of computation which will be integrated into most software in the coming years. I am also a humanist, and have a strong hacker ethic, and I am worried about our collective ability as a society to adapt.

Economies are already shaky around the world, and this new form of automation is going to cause severe short to medium term disturbances in the labor market. Are we truly ready to manage half a billion to a billion displaced or impacted jobs? Do we have the political will and ability to have the conversation even, of trying to help the impacted, with most countries running deficit budgets, what is going to happen?

And then there is the impact on our data economy, and also on human ability to perform analytical reasoning and to make decisions. Big Tech is already on the wrong side of history, with AI, the yawning asymmetry just increases orders of magnitude.

Many say that the answer lies in ethical use of AI, and folks are striving to determine and formulate these so-called “ethical AI systems”. What exactly does it all mean? Where is the human race headed in the coming decade? Will AI be the beginning of the end? Or will the promised utopia finally arrive? Will it be a new feudal world with extreme poverty and gated communities keeping the 1% out of sight, or will it be a remaking of society powered by a new cornucopia?

No one can quite answer these questions with any certainty, much less the very AI companies bringing all this to market. In the case that our fears are well-placed, we would not want to look back and admit that we didn’t do everything we could have, that we left any stones unturned.

So we’ve started to work on a new project to help create a human-centric approach to this new force of AI. This new platform is a human-AI collective, a hybrid, a community powered by AI-agents and their owners, as well as experts and enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and engineers, and of course, end users, both individuals and businesses.

Daemons is designed to be a marketplace and API platform where AI Agents can be hired alongside their human creators. AI Agents can work together with each other, as well as with humans to co-create value. Not only does Daemons respect data-privacy, but actively works to protect and monetize user data for users, and to create a more democratic opportunity for everyone to play together.

We also plan to structure Daemons as a DAO (a Decentralized Autonomous Organization), allowing for community ownership and profit-sharing, and for a voice in governance and how we shape the conversation and strategy. Join us in this journey to keep humans and AI in a collaborative relationship, and to educate others about thinking through and applying ethical AI.
